A visit from the “Procrastination Muse”

Unbelievably, or perhaps believably (the evidence is rather blatant), I have had to take a break from writing in order to pursue my career – one has to pay the bills, you know! Either way, I have missed writing very much. I have been quite busy with work, and writing a textbook of all things, so the “writing” I refer to here is writing for the pure joy of it. Academic writing is vastly different to this, albeit interesting (mostly…not always).

I’ve been collecting ideas of all kinds, and hope to regale you with interesting tales and anecdotes soon – the textbook is in its final stages (just some polishing required), and I really should be going through it right now, but I couldn’t resist writing this post. I’ve also promised myself that going forward I AM going to take more time for myself and my family and try not be such a workaholic. Yes, I know, promises are meant to be broken, and I probably will continue to be a workaholic – but this is a public statement to egg myself on and hold myself accountable to make sure I’m doing fun stuff again. Avoidance of embarrassment is a good motivator, I tell you!

All this being said, the “Procrastination Muse”, to me, is more of a good motivator than not, as she is persistent in reminding me that I can’t procrastinate any longer (than I already do, anyway…) and I need to get cracking on things. There is so much to write about, to do, to experience, and there is no time like the present.

If you’re in the same boat as I am, I urge you to learn from my silliness, wherein I left one of my passions in the corner gathering dust for far too long, and pursue what you really want to do. Yes, there are sometimes factors that constrain, or terrible hardships to overcome, or it’s just life in general that gets in the way. Be that as it may, at least these situations are often temporary and can be overcome – I suppose that eventually, things do work out.

Ps. My cats are happiest when I’m writing/ working – gives them something new to sleep on. This is a picture of Calliope Rose.

I hope you get to write more! Writing it such a way of life, and it can really become part of us. What are you thinking of writing? A novel, short stories? Let me know!
